Vehicle reservations

Vehicle reservations on the Port Townsend/Coupeville and Anacortes/San Juan Island routes are currently available to reserve through March 23, 2024.

Please be advised that International service to and from Sidney, B.C. is out of service until at least Spring 2030 due to vessel availability challenges.

Customers can stay up to date on service changes by signing up for rider alerts as well as checking our website and social media accounts.

A reservation is a way for a vehicle to save a spot on a few ferry routes. These routes include:

  • Port Townsend/Coupeville
  • Anacortes/San Juan Islands (Friday Harbor, Orcas Island, Shaw Island, Lopez Island).

A vehicle reservation is not a ticket. It has no cost unless you no show - If you do not show up, you will be charged a fee. If you make multiple reservations and only use one, you will be charged a no-show fee for the unused reservation(s).

Purchase your tickets online or when you arrive at the terminal or tollbooth to pay your fare.

Vehicle reservations are not required, but are strongly recommended - Limited stand-by space is available on all sailings.

Vehicle reservations are one way - Be sure to make reservations for both your outbound and return trips. Please note that there are no reservations eastbound departing Shaw or Lopez Island to Anacortes. All vehicles are loaded first-come first-served from these terminals.

Reservations are for vehicles only - Walk-on passengers and those bringing bicycles can buy a ticket online or pay when you arrive.

Change or cancel vehicle reservations

You can change or cancel your vehicle reservations online.

  • Reservations must be changed or canceled before 5:00 p.m. PT the day before travel to avoid a no-show fee.
  • A final change is allowed after 5:00 p.m. PT the day before the reserved sailing with no charge. If a reservation is canceled after the final change has been made, a no-show fee will be charged.
  • No changes or cancellations can be made less than two hours in advance of the reserved sailing.

If you change or cancel one reservation, you may need to change or cancel the return trip to avoid a no-show fee.

On the day of travel

You must arrive in advance of your sailing time. Specific timeframes are outlined below.

    -    You may arrive for an earlier or later sailing on the same day and travel stand-by. Let the ticket seller know so you are not charged a no-show fee for your reserved sailing.

    -    There is no separate reservation line. Reservation holders will be directed to the reservation holding lanes past the tollbooths.

Port Townsend/Coupeville

    -    Arrive and join the line 30-45 minutes in advance of your reserved sailing.

Anacortes/San Juan Islands - Friday Harbor, Orcas Island, Shaw Island, and Lopez Island (Domestic)

    -    Arrive and join the line 45-60 minutes in advance of a reserved sailing.

    -    Drivers must check-in at a tollbooth or with an attendant at least 30 minutes before reserved sailing in both directions. If you don't check-in on time, you will lose your reserved space and must travel standby.

    -    On busy sailings, vehicles will have to wait in line before reaching the tollbooth or attendant. Keep this in mind when planning how far in advance to arrive.

What to bring

    -    The printed or mobile barcode from the attachment in your confirmation email or the reservation confirmation number.
